100,000 soldiers mobilised within 24 hours
63 SAR people sent from the UK including dogs and a medical support team
However survivors complained that they were left in chaotic weather
soldiers were deployed in the first 24 hours to 48 hours 160,000 deployed in 2 months
116 countries and 28 international organisations replied to appeal for help
All radio and tv coverage switched to earthquake new so people knew what to do
230 red cross teams mobilised

exclusion zone 20km around Fukushima later expanded to 30 km 140000 people were evacuated `
100,000 residents have not returned in the last 5 years
1000 elderly people later died due to stress from the movement
Nuclear power station shut till 2016

Warping of pacific plate means it gets stuck and energy builds up lead to 9.0 magnitude earthquake (9th largest in history)
Multiple earthquakes due to complex fault lines on Eurasian plate
