What is conductive hearing loss?
The mechanical dysfunction of the external or middle ear; may be partial hearing loss; caused by cerumen, foreign bodies, perforated tympanic ear drum, pus or serum in the middle ear.
Conductive hearing loss can often be treated medically or surgically.
What is sensorineural hearing loss?
Loss related to pathology of the inner ear, Cranial nerve VIII, or the auditory area of the cerebral cortex; may be due to aging (presbycusis) or ototoxic drugs affecting the hair cells of the cochlea.
Sensorineural hearing loss is often permanent and may require hearing aids or cochlear implants.
What is mixed hearing loss?
