Q

What is a reclosure and how does it work

A

A device that senses fault current and will open a line but will close back and will open a line but will close back in on the fault around 3 times until the fault is cleared or the recloser will stay in the open position can also be set to one shot capabilities in the event there is a worker on the line

29
What is considered high voltage
600 volts
30
Define a neutral
A current carrying conductor at ground potential tied to the substation ground grid and serves as a return of the imbalance of the system
31
How to find guy tension
Guy length divided by anchor lead times the line tension
32
What are five things a lineman can do alone
Refuse cut outs with a hot stick Operate switch with handle or hot stick Install or remove hot tap (not dropping or picking up load) Remove load metering device Emergency repair to keep public safe
33
Define climbing space
A Clear section of the pole to climb and avoid hazards
34
Define an EPZ
A parallel shunt placed around the worker to keep fault current at an acceptably low level traveling through the worker
35
What happens when you ground one phase on a delta line
Nothing will happen if there are no other grounds on the line your allowed one ground on a delta system
36
1 HP is equal to how many watts
746 watts
37
Difference between k fuses and T fuses
Quick Times
38
Why must switches be timed properly
If one switch opens quicker than the others a massive amount of arcing can occur
39
How does a sectionilzer work
Works in conjunction with a recloser down stream to isolate a section of line. Will not open under load but can pick up load
40
Two types of electrical contact
Direct and indirect
41
How do you find guy length
A2+b2=c2
42
What are the minimum amount of wraps on a wire drum
4 wraps
43
Define voltage
Electrical pressure wich is a force that pushes current
44
What is ohms law
1 volt will push 1 amp through 1 ohm of resistance
45
Define electrical frequency
Number of complete wave forms completed in one second unit of measurement
46
What is a recloser and how’s it work
A recloser is a device that senses and interrupts fault current and automatically restores the power up to three times if the fault is not cleared it will stay open. Also has one shot capabilities used when workers are on the line
47
How would you use a rotation meter and why
Three phase secondary applications. Take each leg of the three phase motor to the hot secondary legs taped and identified properly to find rotation to either match that rotation with a new bank you are installing or to make sure you are giving the customer the required rotation
48
What is on a tailboard
Hazards energy source controls work procedures special precautions ppe
49
What is skin effect
92 percent of electrons travel on outside of conductor
50
What is a radial feed
Only one place where source voltage can originate
51
What is a loop feed
Two or more places where source voltage can originate from
52
When are ground required
De energized lines where nominal voltage is 600 volts and up
53
What must a ground rods resistance be
25 ohms
54
What is a rotation meter
A three phase motor used to identify phasing sequence
55
