What was Kerensky planning in regards to the war?
•He was planning a large military offensive
Why did the people of Russia oppose the idea of a military offensive?
•They were starving and poor

•It simultaneously made the Bolsheviks grow in popularity
•Their radical left ideas appealed to the people of Russia
What problems were Kerensky facing that undermined his plan for a full scale offensive?
•popular demands for peace, soldiers ignoring commands from their officers and large scale desertions
What were the causes of the summer offensive/Kerensky offensive?
•Due to the PG honoring alliances created during the Tsars reign, Kerensky believed that a victory would raise morale and rally the Russian people
•Pushing them to want a full victory, forcing Germany to make peace with Russia
•Bolsheviks were growing in popularity and creating massive waves of hostility for the PG which became a catalyst for the July days- a big protest
Why was Kerensky’s offensive strategy disliked within the provisional government?
•Many within the PG only agreed to continue supporting the war effort if it was a defensive war
What were the events from July 1st to July 4th?
•On July 1st 1917, The Russian army led by General Brusilov attacked the Austro-German forces on the Eastern Fromt in Galicia (Poland) and marched towards Lvov
•The Russian army was initially successful however soldiers refused to leave their trenches to push towards the Austro-German forces
•By July 3-4 the offensive had completely collapsed
•The Austro-German forces launched a counter-attack through Galicia and into Ukraine, stopping at the Zburch River
What was the consequences of the July days?
•There were 58,000 casualties
•43,000 desertions
•On July 2nd all 4 constitutional democrats (Kadets) resigned from the PG throwing the PG into further political chaos
•Lvov resigned as PM and is replaced by Kerensky

What were the July days?
•A series of protests lasting from July 3-5
•between February and June grain prices had doubled in Petrograd while shortages of fuel and raw materials had forced the closure 586 factories and loss of 100,000 jobs
•The workers were demanding price controls, but the provisional government was frightened to act against the industrialists •consequently when 200,00 armed sailors from Konstad appeared on the streets workers and soldiers joined them
•They chanted Bolshevik slogans, attacked shops and seized railway stations and other key buildings •some even invaded tauride Palace demanding that the Soviet take power
