ALSO KNown as mucocutaneous lymph node
syndrome, is an acute systemic inflammatory illneSS:
➢is defined as an acute febrile syndrome associated with
generalized vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels) affecting all
blood vessels throughout the body, including the coronary
arteries.
➢The cause is unknown, but it may be associated with an infection
from an organism or toxin.
➢Cardiac involvement is the most serious complication; coronary
aneurysms can develop. (common sequelae)
➢It is self-limiting and resolves in 6-8 weeks.

Begins with resolution of fever and continues until outward
clinical manifestations have resolved
SUBACUTE STAGE
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF ACUTE STAGE?
1.Fever
2.Conjunctival hyperemia
3.Mucositis(cracked red lips and a “strawberry tongue”)
4.Extremity changes, including swelling of the hands and feet and erythema of the
palms and soles
5.Rash
6.Enlargement of cervical lymph nodes
7.Increased irritability
8.Arthritis
9.Cardiovascular findings, including tachycardia and gallop sounds
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF SUBACUTE STAGE?
1.Cracking lips and fissures
2.Desquamation of the skin on the tips of the fingers and toes
3.Joint pain
4.Cardiac manifestations
5.Thrombocytosis (hypercoagulability)
Child appears normal, but signs of inflammation may
be present, and laboratory values may be abnormal.
