What was the procedure in keating?
Questionnaire. Questions asked about family planning, sexual activity and exposure to media campaigns.
What were the closed questions asked?
1) have you ever talked with your partner about ways to stop getting the virus that causes aids?
2) can people reduce their chances of getting aids by hsing a condom every time they have sex?
3) did you use a condom during your last sexual encounter?
What were the results of keating?
Exposure to media campaigns high
Those exposed more likely to have discussed hiv and aids with partner
Twice as likely to know that condom use reduces the risk of hiv infection
Exposure to vision had no effect on condon use during last sexual encounter
Conclusions of keating?
Vision increased awareness and communication of hiv/aids
Increased knowledge had no effect on condom use
Different media should be used to target different people
Practical advice about how to obtain condoms should be included in future campaigns.
Aim of keating?
To asess the extent to which a mass media campaign focussing on reproductive health and hiv/aids prevention increased awareness and prevention of hiv/aids.
