- every place hasd a unique location on earth’s surface identified by its name, site, and situation
- geographers identify regions as areas distinguished by a distinctive combination of cultural, economic, and environmental features wich helps us to understand why every region and place is unique
- culture encompasses what people care about and will preserve

A
- uses maps to display the location of objects and to get information about places
- early geographers drew maps of the earth based on exploration and observation
- GIS and other contemporary technological tools help geographers to understand what they see on earth’s surface

geographers examine at all scales, however, are increasingly concerned with the global scale
- places display similarities because they are connected to each other and pehnomena spread through relocation and expansion diffusion
- geographers study the interactions of people and human activities across space, and they identify the different processes by wich people and ideas diffuse from one place to another

- the abiotic systems of the earth influence and interact with biotic systems
- the abiotic systems inculde the hydrosphere, lithosphere and atmosphere while the biotic includes the bioshpere and all living elements
- human actions on earth have, in many cases, let to most of the environmental degradation that we now see on earth
