It is a volcanic rock that possibly contain diamonds, crystals and other minerals.
It is not a resistant rock.
How many kimberlite pipes exists.
Over 5000 but only 1% is proved to be economic diamond mines.
What is the importance of kimberlite?
It's the primary source of diamonds.
When was the last kimberlite eruption?
No kimberlite eruptions has happened for a million years.
What is it named after?
Town of Kimberley in S. Africa in 1870.
Are kimberlite pipes easy to find?
Difficult to discover and usually small, covered by sediments and vegetation.
Where are kimberlites usually found?
Occur in cratonic areas of the continent.
