Kinematics Flashcards
(33 cards)
What is kinematics?
Spatial and Temporal components of motion
What does kinematics analyse?
Temporal characteristics
Position
Velocity
Acceleration
Does it take forces into account?
NO
What are the 2 Measures used?
Scalar and Vector
What are scalars?
Quantites described by amount or volume: ie. Mass, Distance and Volume
What are vectors?
Cannot be described by just magnitude
Include direction
What is temporal analysis?
Running time or duration of a phase of something
What is distance?
Scalar quantity
What is displacement?
A vector quantity,
Measured in a straight line from where they began to where the finish
If an athlete runs 400m what is the distance and what is the displacement?
Distance: 400m
Displacement: 0
How is speed worked out?
Rate of change= Distance covered/Time taken
S=D/T
How is velocity worked out?
Rate of change of displacement = Displacemet/Time
What units are velocity and speed measured in?
m/s
What is acceleration?
The rate of change of velocity with respect to time
How is average acceleration worked out?
Avg Acceleration: Change in velocity/Time taken
What is Vi Vf Ti Tf
Initial velocity
Final velocity
Initial time
Final time
What units is acceleration measured in?
m/s/s
What are the 3 possible scenarios in terms of acceleration?
vf>vi Positive acceleration
vf=vi No change in acceleration
vf
What is the difference between a step and a stride?
Step = LF to RF Stride = LF to RF to LF
How is velocity in terms of steps worked out?
Step length x Step frequency
How is angular position and displacement quantified?
Using circles,
Degrees/Radians
How many degrees in a circle?
360
What is 1 rev?
1 circle
How much is 1 radian worth?
57.3
