Knee Special Tests Flashcards
(8 cards)
what is the anterior drawer test for
test for anterior instability of the knee
(+) = tibia moves forward more then 6mm on femur
if only the ACL is torn, the test would be (-) b/c the other structures would limit movement
what is the test that is the best indicator for injury to ACL espec posterolateral band
Lachman’s
pt supine, affected leg beside examiner
examiner holds pt;s knee between full ext and 30 flexion
pts distal lateral femur is stabilized w one of examiners hands, other hand proximal medial tibia that is laterally rotated, try to translate tibia anteriorly
(+) = mushy or soft end feel
if the step is lost during posterior sag sign test what does it indicate
torn PCL
valgus stress tests for what
medial instability
tests for meniscus
mcmurrays
bounce home
apleys compression
test for assessing the integrity of the collateral knee ligaments
apleys distraction
pt prone, knee flexed to 90
stabilize pts leg by placing knee one pts posterior thigh
examiner grasps leg proximal to ankle and a traction is applied to the tibia towards the ceiling - internal and external rotation to tibia is performed
(+) = medial knee pain indicates MCL damage and lateral knee pain = LCL damage
pt prone
knee flexed to 90
compress flexed knee joint and menisci by pushing the pts foot and tibia down into the table
followed by internal and external rotation of tibia = what test
apleys compression test
(+) pain on medial aspect of joint is positive for medial meniscus damage , pain on lateral side means lateral injury
what test is for dislocation of patella or excessive lateral tracking
patella apprehension test (fairbanks)
