The emancipation proclamation

A

This was issued after the battle of Antietam. There were AA soldiers, and it changed the war’s objective to ending slavery. Even though Lincoln had no power to enforce this, it boosted troop’s morale and made Europe not help the CSA

The African Americans gained respect bye fighting for their country that managed to free them from slavery

That means that the rich men were able to get out of being drafted into the army for their war, but the poor had to fight

Draft riots happened commonly because of this unfair policy (the most famous one was in New York)

Lincoln won because of Sheridan and Sherman’s victories, and he talked about letting the South back to the union peacefully in his 2nd inaugural address
