Q

Example of knowledge information and data - race

A

14.9, 21.3, 17.8, 12.4, 13.7, 11.5, 19.2 - data
These are times in seconds from a 100m race -information

Q

Advantages of encoding data

A

Saves time typing it in eg LHR is faster than typing London Heathrow in a baggage system
Reduces the amount of hard disk space/less memory used
Lessens the chance of errors due to less typing/easier to validate/greater consistency
Faster to search due to the greater consistency of data

Q

Encoding data can lead to inaccurate results - how

A

Coarsens the data and causes a loss of precision e.g. Hair colour in a survey as all the categories cannot be listed such as light mousey dark brown so all listed under brown
Subjective to personal opinions e.g. one person may rate a meal as excellent but someone else may only rate it as good

Q

Difference between encoding and encryption

A

Encoding is giving something s shortened code for the purpose of data entry such as GB for Great Britain and encryption is scrambling things like credit card details so they can’t be read
