  • If one country fell victim to communism, then other surrounding countries would become more susceptible to communist takeover.
  • In this instance, Eisenhower believed that if Korea fell to communism, then countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Thailand could also fall

Give some consequences of the Korean War

A
  • USA showed it was willing to use force to oppose communism
  • The UN was proven to be more effective than the LoN in dealing with agression
  • Almost 4 million casualties and massive damage to infrastructure demonstrated that it would be harder for the USA to fight off communism than it thought
  • USA furthered its anti-communist alliances with SEATO and CENTO
  • Krushchev made Warsaw Pact
  • USA and USSR began nuclear arms race ( hydrogen bombs + ICBM’s)
