What are the three types of play?
Locomoter, object and social
What is behalf and Byers definition of play?
All motor acting performed postnatally that appears to be purposeless, in which motor patterns from other contexts may often be use in modified forms and altered temporal sequencing.
What are the problems with this definition?
Play must actually have a purpose as is costly to the individual
What is an ethogram?
an inventory of the animals actions
What may be the purpose of object play?
Provide food finding skills, in scavenging and hunting animals
What may be the purpose of locomotor play?
May provide knowledge of ‘lay of the land’, or provides exercise to develop motor skills
What may be the purpose of social play?
Enhance physical and social skill, better at interaction with conspecifics
