L10 - I-V characteristics non-ohmic conductor Flashcards
(7 cards)
what is the shape of the graph when it is a fixed resistor?
directly proportional diagonal line.
what is the shape of the graph when it is a filament lamp?
s shape.
what is the shape of the graph when it is a diode?
first straight then turns into small s.
what does a fixed resistor graph show?
as the p.d difference increases, current also increases. current is directly proportional to voltage.
what does a filament lamp graph show?
as the p.d difference increases, the current starts to increase less and less each time because the filament lamp gets hot. this makes resistance go up.
what does the diode graph show?
when diode is connected right way round, current flows as voltage increases. if connected other way round then no current flows and resistance is high.
dependent, independent and control variable for ohmic resistors.
dv:current and potential difference
iv:resistance
cv:voltage supply
