L9 - electrical circuits Flashcards
(11 cards)
what are the two types of electricity?
static (not moving) and current (moving).
what is an electric current?
a flow of charged particles.
what is current?
a flow of electrons (negative charge).
rearrange Q=I x t
(charge flow = current x time)
I=Q/t
t=Q/I
what is the measurement of charge flow?
coulombs (C).
resistor, variable resitor, fuse and thermistor, LDR.
resistor=box with line on sides.
variable resistor= resistor with arrow diagonal.
fuse = resistor with line going through.
thermistor=resistor with shirt line then goes diagonally up.
LDR=resistor with circle around and 2 arrows parallel pointing in.
diode, LED
diode=play button with line in circle with line going through.
LED=diode with parallel arrows facing outwards.
what does the cell store and where does it transfer it to?
chemical energy, charge carries when a circuit is connected.
when electrons pass through the battery, what do they gain and what is raised?
energy as their ‘potential’ is raised.
resistance measurement?
ohms (Ω).
rearrange V=IR
(potential difference = current x resistance)
I=V/R
R=V/I
