What is sand casting?
Mold constructed from sand from a pattern
What are the cope and drag?
Cope is top half of sand moldDrag is bottom half of sand mold
What is Green Mold Casting?
sand is moist during casting, least expensive method
With regards to types of sand metals, what is Skin Dried?
Surface of mold dried in air, baked, and torch dried. High accuracy, and surface finish
What is no-bake casting?
A type of sand casting where synthetic resins mixed with sand and hardened at room temperature which leads to more accurate mold, but is more expensive.
What are the 3 types of patterns used in casting?
- One Piece2. Split Pattern3. Matchplate Patterns
Advantages to shell mode casting?
-close dimensional toloerances-low cost-good surface finish
What is the process of shell mold casting?
Heated metal pattern is coated with parting agent and covered with resin infused sand and allowed to harden. To halves clamped together

How does it Vacuum casting work?
sand mold is immersed in molten metal and sucked up through the mold
Advantages to vacuum casting?
-good for thin walled complex shapes with uniform properties-no problems with porousity

- induction furnace
- cupola furnace
