L14 Brain circuits II Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
what is the source memory task
A
- encoding words that led to recognition with source memory activated hippocampus and parahippocampus
- envoding that produced recognition without source memory activated only perirhinal cortex
2
Q
perirhinal cortex role in familiarity:
A
- perirhinal cortex activations found systematically with New-Old meta analysis
- basically, perirhinal has role in distinction between new and old (familiarity)
3
Q
what evidence challenges selective hippocampal effect for recollection?
A
- encoding study
- used confidence ratings to demonstrate that differential effects are just due to confidence
- if confident - you activate hippocampus
- so tests strength of memory
4
Q
montaldi’s own study
A
- there is clear evidence that even when memory strength is matches, hippocampus is not activated when memory is based on familiarity
- modulation of familiairty has no effect on hippocampus, strong evidence that the perirhinal cortex does support familiarity while the hippocampus only supports recollection
5
Q
what part of the brain is involved in encoding diff types of recognition info?
A
thalamus
- mediodorsal thalamus as mediator for familiarity
6
Q
corresponding pattern separation tests target?
A
familiarity
7
Q
non-corresponding pattern separation tests target?
A
recollection
