L9 - Colorimetry + Calibration Curves Flashcards

1
Q

Define quantitive

A

A quantitative test gives a measure of the amount of substance in a
given set of units, not simply an indication for presence or absence of
the test material

A

Assay techniques are often used to compare measurements with

known samples so that a quantitative measurement can be made

Q

As glucose concentration decreases from 10% to 0% how should % transmission change?

A

A 10% concentration should have a higher percentage than 0%

The transmission % decreases as you go down in concentration

Q

Why must curettes be transparant and handled carefully by the grooved side only?

A

Transparant - so light can pass through

Handling - fingerprints or marks can affect results

Q

How do you use a colorimeter?

A

Select red filter

Put water in a cuvette and get a reading (should be 100% transmission)

Then place coloured cuvettes in to get their different % transmissions of light
