Lab 08 Flashcards
(18 cards)
What are organisms that undergo photosynthesis called
Phototrophs, this includes all green plants
What is chlamydomonas
A unicellular green algae, found in freshwater, soils, oceans and even snow, each one contains a single chloroplast and can gain all of its nutritional requirements through photosynthesis
How is O2 produced
The breakdown of water
What is the photosynthetic rate
The rate at which photosynthesis occurs
What is dissolved oxygen
The amount of O2 in water
What is light intensity
A factor that can change the photosynthetic rate
How can the photosynthetic rate be measured
CO2 consumption, biomass and O2 production
What is the independent variable
Temperature/ light intensity
What is the dependent variable
Photosynthetic rate (mg/L/sec)
Control group
Room temperature
Treatment group
30 degrees temperature group
Hypothesis
The temperature increase will increase teh photosynthetic rate
What is a BOD
Biological oxygen demand bottle, its a sealed container where teh Chlamydomonas is not exposed to atmospheric CO2
What is a PI curve
The curve of the photosynthetic rate compared to light intensity
What is the slope
The change in rate due to intensity
What is the Pmax
the maximum rate of photosynthesis that an organism can achieve in its given environment
What is the light compensation point
The light intensity at which O2 production in photosynthesis is equal to consumption of O2 in cellular respiration. It is represented on the graph by the X-intercept
What is the unit for light intensity
Microeinsteins
