Correct emergency for head injuries is paramount because:
Head injuries can seem minor at first, but can sometimes prove to be much more sever later.
When controlling bleeding in Head injuries, DOs and DO NOTs:
Do
Clean minor wounds with soap and water.
DO NOT
press on dent in skull
remove impaled object
clean deep scalp wounds.
Concussion produces
Unconsciousness
Bleeding (cerebral)
For Mouth injuries you should….
Have t h e victim sit with their head tilted forward to allow blood t o drain.
How do you control bleed for a LIP?
Rolled dressing between the
lip and the gum.
A second one on the outter lip
How do you control bleeding for the TONGUE?
Press both sides of tongue with
gauze or clean cloth
How do you control bleeding for the TONGUE?
Press both sides of tongue with
gauze or clean cloth
How do you control bleeding for GUMs and Roof Tops?
Direct pressure
How do you stop bleeding for TEETH?
Direct pressure on tooth or socket
Or
Bite down on cloth on the tooth or socket
What are the DO NOTs in Mouth injuries?
Do not rinse with water (prevent coagulation)
And don’t swallow blood (vomiting)
If tooth has been broken or knocked out,
remove knocked out tooth or fragments and
submerge them in milk and transport
What are the key things to not do for someone that’s poisoned
DO NOT give antidotes or induce vomiting unless
directed t o d o so by emergency personnel.
White nail syndrome may also be called
leukonychia.
Causes of leukonychia?
- Arsenic poisoning.
- Heart disease.
- Renal failure.
4 . Pneumonia. - Hypoalbuminemia.
If seizure is caused by high fever
sponge victim’s body
with lukewarm water before transporting. DO NOT place
victim i n water.
Shock
A life threatening condition where there is no sufficient blood flow or oxygen
Symptoms for shock
Pale or bluish skin, lips, and fingernails.. moist, clammy skin, weakness, weak, rapid pulse (more than 100 beats
per minute), increased breathing rate, irregular breathing, restlessness, anxiety, thirst, vomiting, dull look in eyes, dilated pupils, unresponsiveness, blotchy or
streaked skin, & possible unconsciousness in severe
conditions.*
What is/are the positions that are done for people in shock
Lie on his back with his feet lifted 12 inches

Recovery position

Breaking or opening of the skin

A jagged irregular cut

Tearing of soft tissue
And
Often contaminated with bacteria and debris

Caused by sharp pointy objects
usually does not bleed excessively and can appear to close up.
