Lab 7- Voltaic Cells Flashcards
(6 cards)
Define Redox Reactions
Reactions that are characterized by oxidation and reduction that involve the transfer of electrons.
What happens to a species that is oxidized/reduced?
The oxidized species is the one that loses electrons and the one that gains electrons is the one that is reduced.
Where does electron flow occur in the galvanic cell?
It is always from the anode to the cathode (where reduction happens to where oxidation happens).
From the salt bridge, where do the anions and the cations move?
Cations go to the cathode and the anions go to the anode.
What is the equation for determining the standard cell potential?
E cathode- E anode.
What is the equation for relating the E cell to the standard E cell?
E Cell= E Cell* - 0.0592V/n . Log (Q)
