Lab 8 - Animal Tissues and Organs Flashcards
(22 cards)
Epithelial Tissue
Also known as surface tissue. It’s one or more layers lining the body or certain organs
Simple Epithelial Tissue
One cell layer
Stratified Epithelial tissue
more than one layer of cells
Squamous
Flat cells
Cuboidal
box-like cells
Columnar
Elongated box-like cells
Connective Tissue
Part of all connective substances in our body. Bones, blood, and fat.
3 Type of Fibres
Collagenous Fibres, Reticular Fibres, Elastic Fibres
Collagenous Fibres
Strength and flexibility
Reticular Fibres
Attachment to adjacent tissues
Elastic Fibres
For Elasticity
Tendons
Connect Muscles to Bones
Ligaments
Connect bones to bones
Muscle Tissue
Capable of contraction and is responsible for movement in the body
3 Types of Muscle Tissue
Skeletal muscle tissue, smooth muscle tissue, cardiac muscle tissue
Skeletal Muscle Tissue
Voluntary Muscle attached by tendons to bones. Also called striated muscle tissue.
Smooth Muscle Tissue
Not attached to bones, Inside the walls of internal organs, blood vessels, air passages, and various ducts. Involuntary
Cardiac Muscle Tissue
Contraction is involuntary. Makes up the heart muscle
Nerve (Nervous) Tissue
Forms the nervous system of the body, the brain and the spinal cord.
2 types of Nervous system cells
Neurons cells and Glia cells
Organs and systems
Tissues integrate to form organs. Organs are part of systems in the body.
Systems of an organism (animal)
Respiratory System, Digestive System, Circulatory System, Excretory system
