Lab Quiz 4 Flashcards
Adaptation
Decrease in impulse generation in the sensory neurons
Referred pain
pain felt in the areas that are not injured; pain coming from inside the body is poorly localized due to small number of sensory receptors
Photoreceptors
Specialized sensory receptors to see visible wavelengths of light (vision)
Mechanoreceptors
Specialized sensory receptors to sense sound waves (sound)
Chemoreceptors
Specialized sensory receptors to sense chemicals in a solution (smell or taste)
Two types of photoreceptors
rods and cones
Blind spot
Where the optic nerve exits the eye
Myopic
Nearsighted (can’t see far)
Hyperopic
Farsighted (can’t see close)
Emmetropic
Normal vision
Accommodation
Ability of the lens to change shape in order to bend light rays to focus
Tonotopy
Spatial arrangement of the representation of sounds of different frequencies and where they can be detected
Weber and Rinne Test
Use tuning fork to determine wether a hearing loss is present
Olfaction
Smell
Gustation
Taste
