Lab Techniques Flashcards
Gas Chromatography
Mobile Phase:Inert Gas/carrier gas
Stationary Phase:Liquid/Solid
Elute First: Gas with low boiling point or smaller molecule if boiling points are similar if the gas has a high boiling point
Thin Layer Chromatography
Mobile: Liquid ex; DCM
Stationary: Solid ex;silica
Elute first: compound most similar to liquid phase
Column Chromatography
Mobile: Solvent
Stationary:silica/alumina
Elute first: samples similar to solvent
Depends on: size of compound and similarity to solvent
Ion Exchange Chromatography
Mobile:
Stationary: charged
Elute First:same charge, opposite charge are stuck to column
Size-Exclusion Chromatography
Mobile:
Stationary: Beads with pores
Elute: Depends on size, usually to catch tiny molecules and let pass the larger ones
Affinity Chromatography
Stationary: coated with receptors for particular protein
