Lab Tests Diagnostic Pricedures Flashcards
(12 cards)
Cardiac catherization
Catheter is introduced into a vein or artery to measure pressure and flow patterns of blood
Angiography
X-ray of blood vessels after injection of a contrast medium into the bloodstream
Cardiac enzymes
Blood test to measure blood flow in blood vessels via sound waves
Doppler ultrasound
Instrument used to measure blood flow in blood vessels via sound waves
Echocardiogram
Produces images of the heart via sound waves or echoes
Electrocardiogram
Recording ekevtrucity flowing through the heart
Event moniter
A moniter Worn for up to two weeks that can record irregularities in the heartbeat
Holter moniter
A moniter worn for 24 hrs that can record heart irregularities
MIBI scan
A radioactive chemical is injected intravenously and shows perfusion (flow) of the blood in the heart muscle . If the patient has had an MI thd chemical will be taken up in the area of the MI ( hot spot )
PET scan
Radioactive chemicals are injected into the bloodstream and travel to the heart where cross sectional images show the flow of blood and functional activity of the heart
Stress test
An EEG plus blood pressure and heart rate are recorded as the patient walks on a treadmill. Shows the hearts response to physical exertion
BNP
Determine if patient is in congestive heart failure
