LabLymphoid Flashcards
(27 cards)
lymphocyte
inactivated, the darkest
lymphoblast
activated, immature, basophilic, enlarged nuclei
medium sized lymphocyte
arise from lymphoblast
nuclei lighter than lymphocyte
darker than lymphoblast
solitary lymph nodule
germinal center - light lymphocyte (immature)
Mantle - dark outer layer cells, smaller/darker lymphocytes
lighter outer marginal layer
two types:
Primary - no germinal
secondary - germinal
Lymph node
capsule, cortex, central medulla, hilim
Lymph node: cortexo
Outer - nodules (B) with reaction center (medium)
surrounded by mantle (small)
Inner - deep cortex (T)
Non nodular lymph
lies between and deep to nodules
extends into central medulla as narrow cords (WITH B CELLS)
Lymph node: Central Medulla
Inner cortex cords (dense lymphatic tissue)
cords are separated by medullary sinuses (loose lymphatic tissue)
Lymph node: Reticular Fibers
Dont stain with H/E, only with silver
Black thin branches
Seen in capsule, surrounding blood vessels
Lymph node: Reticular Cells
In sinuses
Don’t stain well
Arms of cytoplasm/stellate
LOOKS LIKE NEURON
Lymph node: Afferent lymphatic
Seen within outer capsule
Looks like large, irregularly shaped blob filled with white
Valves, nodules within
Delivers LYMPH FLUID
Lymph node: Efferent lymphatic
Located in Hilis
Afferent is in outer capsule
Lymph node: Macrophage
in sinuses
Large, acidophilic, contain debris
Mushy, pink circle
Lymph node: Venules
Deep cortex
Lined by TALL endothelium
Lymph node: Arterioles
In dense tissue of medulla and cortex
Lymph node: blood vessels
Blood vessels are at dense lymphatic tissue of cortex/medulla
Lymph node: Capsule
dense CT
subcapsular sinus
Trabeculae which extend into the organ from capsule
(surrounded by trabecular sinuses)
Spleen
Capsule White pulp Red pulp Nodules Trabeculae Septae
Spleen: Capsule
CT
Septae penetrate from capsule
Spleen: White Pulp
looks like a bunch of nodules with in red pulp sea
Nodules
PALS - sheath of helper T encircling central artery
Spleen: Red pulp
Not red/darker depending on the stain used
anything that is not nodules
2 parts - parenchyma, splenic sinuses
Spleen: Nodules
Marginal layer - periphery (lighter than mantle)
Mantle - small dark
Germinal center
Central artery -encircled by PALS (T helper), enters red pulp from white pulp as penicillar artery.
Spleen: Trabeculae
Trabecular artery - thick wall
Trabecular vein - thin wall
Thymus
Capsule
Cortex
Medulla - Hassel’s Corpuscles
Septae
Thymus: Hassel’s Corpuscle
in Medulla
round, eosinophilic
Epithelial reticular cells that are cornified
