Landing gear and brakes Flashcards
(43 cards)
What conditions are necessary for the green towing light to Illuminate for the nose gear?
Emergency brake off
brake pressure off
steer off on EICAS
How do you disconnect nosewheel steering?
button behind the control wheel
or red switch on the nose for ground crew
what conditions are necessary for safe pushback?
GREEN towbar light
STEER OFF on EICAS
parking brake off
What system powers Nosewheel steering?
HYD 2
What system powers the landing gear retract/extend?
HYD 2
How do you engage nosewheel steering?
Tiller (steering handle) must be pressed down
When do you use handwheel steering?
low speed taxi
Is there protection for the nosewheel steering?
yes, as speed increases the steering limit decreases
What disengages rudder steering?
activation of nosewheel steering
The main landing gear is held in the up position by?
Mechanical uplocks
Turn Radius for E170?
54’8
Turn Radius for E175
59’2
What determines min turn radius for the standard wingtips?
Horizontal stabilizer tip
What determines min turn radius for the extended wingtips?
Wingtips
What keeps the landing gear down and locked?
Downlock springs
When would the landing gear aural warnings come on?
-When flaps are set 1-4 and below 700 ft with power lever reduced gear not down
-flaps 5 or FULL landing gear not down
If one of the landing gear lights on EICAS are RED, what does that mean?
Disagreement between gear position and handle position
What color are gear Indications on EICAS during transition?
Amber Boxes chevron
How is landing gear operated?
Electrically commanded, Hydraulically activated
What are 3 landing gear extension modes?
Normal, Electrically overide, Alternate gear extension
Describe normal gear extension
Lever positioned to Down, releases hydraulic pressure from uplocks and retraction actuators
Describe Alternate gear extention
Pulling out on the lever manually disconnects the landing gear uplock and releases hydraulic pressure
If you’ve just manually extended the gear using Alternate gear extension, why might the Landing gear position still show RED?
check gear lever position (must be down)
gear free falls and you might need to yaw the aircraft back and forth to set the downlock springs
When Might you use Alternate gear extension?
If the electrical system fails or malfunctions, or hydraulic pressure not available.
