The banker sees Syphax. Syphax is a slave-dealer. “Hello, Syphax!” shouts the banker. Syphax greets Caecilius and smiles. Caecilius is looking for a slave. The slave-dealer leads Caecilius to the ship. “Wine!” shouts Syphax. Melissa carries wine to Caecilius. The banker drinks the wine and looks at Melissa.“Melissa is skilful/educated,” says the slave-dealer.
“Melissa is learning the Latin language. Melissa cooks an excellent dinner.”

“But Metella has a cook,” says the banker. “Metella wants a hairdresser.”

“Enough! Enough!” shouts Caecilius.Caecilius buys Melissa and returns to the house.

Caecilius calls Metella. Metella looks closely at the slave-girl and praises Caecilius. Melissa looks around the house. Melissa is anxious.
