A

A precedent was is a rule or principle that was not written into the constiution but became the expectation. Washingtons precedents including setting up a cabinet ( a group of advisers for the president), a president can only serve 2, 4 year terms, and he would be referred to as Mr. President not your highness or king.

The midnight appointments were people Adam’s brought into the supreme court at the last minute so that there would be more federalist voices for our upcoming Democratic Republican president. This lead to Marbury vs Madison. This established Judicial Review. It means that the Supreme courts job is to review and interpret not to take legal actions. The supreme court got its power from the constitution.

A

A war hawk was a republican who was pro-war. They war hawks used nationalism as an excuse to gain more power for the United States. (some famous hawks were Henry Clay and John Calhoun.

A

The Alien and Sedition Acts were acts that got placed after the xyz affair. They included:
Alien
-Increased amount of time you need to live in America to become a citizen from 5 to 14 years.
-It allowed the government to be able to deport immigrants from other countries if they made mistakes or seemed suspicious.
Sedition
-it stated that the people couldn’t write or speak on anything that critized the president and government.
The states responded to this by passing the Virigina and Kentucky resolution stating how these laws went against the constitution (the sedition acts went against the first amendment or freedom of speech, press, and religion)
