Lec 13 Flashcards
(25 cards)
what is essential for endo and the standard of care when doing RCT
using a rubber dam
is it possible to eliminate MO with saliva contamination
NO, use rubber dam to isolate RCT and prevent contamination
will NaOCl leak if you do not have a rubber dam
YES most likely
leave rubber dam and frame on when taking radiographs
YES, use radiolucent frame
clamp #212 or #9 are designed for what teeth?
anterior teeth
how many teeth need to be isolated for endo
just 1
-unless M or D caries present
what does Oraseal do?
can be used as a sealing/caulking agent to seal rubber dam around tooth and prevent contamination/leakage
if you cannot place a rubber dam, can you still do RCT?
NO
-refer or do buildup or other procedure so that rubber dam can be used
what does Rx Pro-banthine 15 mg do?
helps with Pt producing excess saliva
-take 1/2 hour before appt to reduce salivary flow
what are stainless steel files?
-sharper edged
-flexible
-can be easily pre-curved and retain shape
-stiffer with larger diameters
-efficient with hand use
-separate with warning if overuse
what are Ni-Ti files?
-nickel and titanium motor driven
-not as sharp
-very flexible
-hard to pre-curve
-perfect shape memory, will NOT hold curve
-efficient for motors
-separates with NO warning
-stiffer if larger diameter
what are SS K type files
screws
-twisted tapered stainless steel files
-do NOT move it in continual clockwise motion, you will get locked in
-counterclockwise will unlock it
Using hand files
-hand files used for shaping
-essential for scouting the canal (10, 8)
-create a glide path (10, 15)
-bypass ledges, blockages
-gain length of canal
-files cut on the outstroke
-size 10 and 15 most used
File sizes
-range from 0.08 to 0.140
-number = tip diameter
-color pattern is W, Y, R, B, G, B
“will you really be going back”
-pattern repeats 0.45 to 0.80 and 0.90 to 0.140
-0.08 (gray) and 0.10 (purple) are exceptions
-0.60 is last size that increases by 0.05 mm
K type hand file sizes
-typically 21, 25, 31 mm lengths
-fluted part of file is always 16 mm long
-all have 0.02 taper
using hand files
-basic to all RCT
-greatest tactile sense of intra-canal
-pathfinders
-use watch winding motion, back and forth wrist movement
-curve all files bc all canals are slightly curved
placing a straight file in a curved canal can create a what?
a ledge on the outer wall
rotary files cannot be used to scout canal or as pathfinders
TRUE, use after hand files create a glide path
wave one gold files
-rotary files, motor driven
-push material ahead of the file
-used in 3 passes to prevent pushing out of apex
-small: 0.20/0.07 (yellow)
-primary: 0.25/0.07 (red)
-large: 0.45/0.05 (white)
-max diameter is 1.20 mm (size 120)
vortex blue files
-rotary files, motor driven
-used to make flowing shape of canal
-color of ring identifies tip sizes (same pattern as hand files)
-WYRBGB
-taper of file is shown with black bands x 2 (all have 0.04 taper so 2 bands)
-we use sizes .25-.50
what is a barbed broach?
barbed file that is rotated in canal to remove a vital pulp organ
-use only in large straight canals
what is a reamer?
-use in straight canal only
-tip is cutting
-ledging is common
-rare, we dont use
what is a hedstroem file?
-cuts aggressively
-faculty use only
when file fails to advance but is loose, this means?
you have a bend in canal
-do not push or a ledge will be made
-remove file and bend tip to advance
