Lec 5 Flashcards
(20 cards)
objective of clinical testing?
reproduce CC and find etiology for Pt pathosis
perio exam must accompany every endodontic appt?
true
how many probings are needed on each tooth?
6
3 buccal
3 lingual
what are you looking for on palpation?
tenderness
swelling
unusual texture, color
DST
DST is always associated with?
CAA
pulp is necrotic
-not much pain
if you find a DST, what must you do
trace it w/ 25/30 gutta percha and take radiograph
for all clinical tests, never start where?
never start on suspect tooth, must establish control/baseline
calibrate Pt
1 reason for non-odontal pain
myofacial pain
palpate facial muscles to find area of pain
how many radiographs required for diagnosis
3
PA, shift shot (20) PA, BW
pulp sensibility tests include?
thermal and electrical tests
they asses pulp sensory response
cold test: lingering for more than 10-15 seconds means
could indicate pathology of pulp
-normal is 3-8 seconds lingering
sensitivity to cold that lingers signifies?
early pulpal inflammation
early SIP
sensitivity to hot signifies?
late pulpal inflammation
late SIP
no response to cold/hot could mean?
necrotic pulp, but dont assume w/o more tests
No response often occurs on:
-young permanent teeth
-teeth right after trauma
-older pt
older Pts may show NR on many teeth, what should you do?
electric pulp test
-any time thermal testing is not clear do EPT
for EPT, tooth paste is used as a?
conductor
if tooth has no caries, trauma or restorations but Pt has symptoms upon biting
suspect axial crack
take radiographs, tooth slooth, probing, transillumination
transillumination: fractured tooth will not allow light to pass thru
true
normal tooth lights up fully (light bulb)
if you cannot dx then?
cannot do any tx
heat testing is done when?
only when Pt reports heat sensitivity as CC
normal teeth are NOT sensitive to hot
