  • In 1846 Scott sued for his freedom and was denied b/c he was black and wasn’t a U.S. citizen

What were some things that happened in the Jim Crow law of segregation?

A
  • the Jim Crow laws that were put into place by the government made the segregation of blacks and whites mandatory in public spaces.
  • Separate or segregated facilities were used for black and white people (ex: schools, transportation, hotels and restaurants)
  • The government established an inferior and political social status of black people and made black people who sat on the bus give up their seats to the white people

what is the montgomery bus boycott?

A

in 1955, rosa parks decided that she didn’t want to give her seat up to a white person on the bus and would rather go to jail.
- this sparked a peaceful protest within the black community known as the montgomery bus boycott
