Lec 2 - Cell Structure Flashcards
What are the three main types of filaments and what is the main role of each?
Actin microfilaments - cell mobility
Intermediate filaments - cell strength
Micro tubles - heterdimer of a and b tubulin. intercell movement
What are the 7 types of IM and the diseases they can detect?
Vimentin - all connective tissues - called [mesenchymal cells ]
Desmin - muscle cells - z-disk
Cytokeratin - epitherlial cells
Lamins - nucleus
nuerofilaments
GFAP
What drugs target microtubles and what do they target?
vin - no pol
pac - lots pol
co - [gout / inflamation ]
gr - fungi
me - H / wroms
*last two don’t enter human body, the drugs attack the fungi or worms in the gut
nm = vin pac cold gross meat
What are cilia made of?
Microtublues + dynein
form off of basal body (9 triplets
there are motile and non-motile cilia
motile (9+2) - sperm (flagella), falopian tube, bronchi and trachea
non-motile (9+0)- on apical surfaces - kidney, eye (photoreceptors), embryogenesis (r/l body patterning)
