Lecture 1 Flashcards
(25 cards)
Types of PET
-picture archiving and communications system
-teleradiology
Who discovered x rays
Wilhelm Conrad roentgen
What are x rays
Ionizing radiation
AP Vs PA projection
-the heart size of the AP is exaggerated, it looks bigger because it’s far from the detector and near the source
-AP is not clear, you can see the shadow of the edge of scapula
What is a cardio thoracic rario
It’s measured on a PA x ray. It’s a ration of maximal horizontal cardiac diameter to maximal horizontal thoracic diameter
Black space?
Air /gas
(lungs, stomach and bowel)
Dark Grey space?
Fat
Light grey
Soft tissue/ water(organs, heart, blood vessels, muscle, fluid filled organs such as bladder)
Off white space?
Bone
Bright white space?
Contrast material and or metals (pacemakers, joint prosthetic bullets)
What do we get at the sides of l1- l5. Looks like shadows
Transverse processes of L1 - L5
What is used to measure pixels that are based on how much the x ray beam is absorbed, which reflects density
Hounsfeld units
HU of air
-1000
HU of fat
-100
HU of water
O
HU of soft tissue
30- 45
HU of iodionated contrast
100-500
HU of Cortical bone
Greater than 1000
HU of Simple fluid
-10 - 20
HU of acute blood(clotted)
60 - 90
HU of trabecular bone
300- 800
How do you tell if an image has intravenous contrast
With intravenous contrast, the aorta is bright white
T1 weighted image
Map of proton energy within fatty tissues of the body
T2 weighted image
Map of proton energy within fatty and water based tissues of the body
