Lecture 1 Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is experimental design?
understanding how to make experimentation more effective, more powerful, and more predictive
what does a more efficient experiment mean
fewer experiments, less time, less money
what does more powerful mean
better understand of the effects of the main factors and interactions on the desired outcome
what does more predictive means
ability to optimize the process to improve the performance characteristics
Within the Six Sigma process, what are the different phases?
DMAIC,
Define, measure, analyze, improve, control
Describe “Define”
in listening to the voice of the customer, this phase helps us prioritize and improve those areas of greatest impact on the business
define what’s important so you can improve it
Describe “measure”
measure the current performance in the areas identified in the define phase. refine the scope of the areas defined in the define phase. measure how well you measure– understand your measurement process. understand your “process outputs”.
Define “analyze”
why is our process not meeting our goals? identify potential areas for improvement
define “improve”
take the solutions that you’ve thought about and then test them.
- this is where the design of experiments comes in
define “control”
see if the solution that we came up with actually stuck – monitor if the thing that you chose to change is actually better
