good esthetics
disadvantages of FPD
loss of adj tooth structure (susceptible to recurrent decay)
fixed, so hygiene more involved
advantages of RPD
when all extracted molars must be replaced
when acrylic will improve esthetics (deep edentulous)
very low expense to pt
disadvantages of RPD
requires a lot of metal and strong teeth to replace single tooth
