Lecture 1 EBP And Outcomes Flashcards
What is the ABC scale
Self reported measure in which their patient rate their balance confidence
ABC scale rate
0-100
0= no confidence
100 = completely confident
Population tested for ABC scale
Elderly
MS
Parkinson’s disease
Stroke
Unilateral transtibial amputation
Vestibular disorders
What do the scores mean for ABC scale ?
> 80% =high level of physical functioning
50-80% = moderate level
< 50% = low level of physical functioning
< 67% = older adults at risk for falling and/or predictive future of fall
What is the TUG cut off score for fall risk for community ambulators
Less than 14 secs
TUG Cog score
5.56 secs or more from TUG score indicates the patient is more likely to fall when cognitively challenged
What’s the walking speed for a community ambulator?
0.8 m/s
What’s the walking speed to be able to cross the street?
1.2 m/s and above
What’s the walking speed to be a limited community ambulator?
0.4-0.8 m/s
What is the walking speed for a household walker?
0 - 0.4 m/s
What are the MDC ranges for 6MWT for Alzheimer’s Disease?
33.47 meters
What balance activities does the Berg Balance scale test?
Static and dynamic activities
What is the highest score for the Berg Balance Scale and what does a higher score mean?
56
High score means “highest level of function”
What item does the Berg Balance scale NOT include
Gait items
What is the purpose of MOS SF 20
Patient-reported measure designed to assess health related quality of life
What is minimal detectable change (MDC )
The smallest amount of difference the instrument can measure
What is minimum clinically important difference (MCID)
Represents the smallest amount of change in an outcome that might be considered functionally important
What are elderly subjects classified as when completing the TUG Cog in more than 15 secs
Fallers w/ a correct prediction rate of 87%
How do you instruct a patient to perform the 10 Meter walk test
“Walk at a comfortable pace”
Have them perform 3 reps and calculate the average time
What is the 10 Meter walk test measuring?
Gait speed
If they are a household walker, limited community ambulator, community ambulator, or able to cross street
What does the 6 Minute Walk Test (6MWT) measure?
Endurance and gait speed
May use an AD
What is the MDC for the 6MWT Parkinson’s Disease
82 meters
What is the MDIC for the 6MWT for COPD patients
54 meters
What is the MDIC for the 6MWT for geriatric patients AND patients with stroke
50 meters
