What is Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating scale
Each face is for a person who has no pain or some or a lot of pain
- 0 doesn’t hurt at all, 2 hurts just little bit, 4 hurts a little bit more, 6 hurts even more, 8 hurts a whole lot, and 10 hurts as much you can imagine
- developed for/by children
What is the Numeric pain rating scale
Patient is asked to make 3 pain ratings, corresponding to current, best, and worst pain experienced over the past 24 HOURS!!
You take the 3 ratings and average them out which will indicate the patients level of pain over the previous 24 hours
Why is the numeric pain scale so important ?
It measures the subjective intensity of pain
(T/F) the VAS is completed by the physician and not the patient
FALSE
The VAS is generally completed by patients themselves
Why is the VAS most valuable pain scale?
It looks for change within the individual
What population group(s) are sensitive to change in the VAS
Patients with inflammatory or degenerative joint pain
