Lecture 10 : Simple Reflexes Flashcards
(10 cards)
What is a reflex
Stereotyped (same in any given situation, consistent), involuntary reactions of CNS to specific sensory inputs
Has a rapid response
Somatic and autonomic
Functions of reflex
Protective (limb withdrawal)
Postural control (walking, etc)
Homeostasis (BP stability)
Reflex Arc
What are interneurons
Acts as a middle link between sensory and motor neurons, essentially integrating different neurons
Found only in CNS
Enteric Nervous System
Efferent Neurones
Carry signals from CNS to body, telling effector what to do, ie. Motor neurones that innervate effectors
What is a simple stretch reflex, how do proprioceptors work?
Reflex responding to muscle stretch, maintaining posture.
Monitored by sensory receptors called proprioceptors, which include muscle spindles and golgi tendon organs
Knee Jerk Reflex
Golgi tendon organ summary
Inverse myotatic reflex (basically golgi tendon reflex)
