Lecture 12 Flashcards
(8 cards)
Where is the promoter region in eukaryotes?
Upstream, 5’
What are core promoter sequences?
Found on the promoter region and they bind proteins that facilitate transcription by bringing RNA polymerase to the right place
What are regulatory promoter sequences?
Regulate whether or not the RNA polymerase will drive transcription
What do RNA polymerase I and III transcribe?
Ribosomal RNAs, tRNAs and small nuclear RNAs
What are motifs?
DNA sequences upstream that dictate which and when genes are transcribed
They bring RNA polymerase to the start of transcription and bind further transcription factors
What is TATA binding protein?
A general transvription factor
Doesn’t cause transcription but allows it to occur
