Lecture 3 Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is the chi squared test used for?
Calculating the differences in observed results compared to expected results, if they happened by chance or some sort of bias
What is the chi squared equation?
sum of ((observed - expected)^2/expected)
What are the alleles of the INS gene?
There are at least 3, INSA, INSB, INSD
What is the degree of freedom?
Number of categories - 1
What is the p value?
Probability that the difference between expected and observed is due to chance
What happens if the p-value is too low of high?
If too high, we reject the null hypothesis
If too low, we cannot reject the null hypothesis
What is consanguineous?
Relating to or denoting people from the same ancestor
Parents who are consanguineous are more likely to produce offspring who are homozygous recessive
