Lecture 13: Inflammation and healing 1 Flashcards
(8 cards)
What are the two types of inflammation?
Acute and chronic.
What are the effects of acute inflammation?
Early, lasts few days, rapid, features neutrophils, fluid and protein exudate, vasodilation and macrophages. It is non specific.
What are the effects of chronic inflammation?
Late response, can last years, features macrophage, lymhocytes, plasma cells.
Prevention of blood clotting is via what chemicals? Name 2.
Nitric oxide and prostacyclin.
Name a very strong vasoconstrictor.
Endothelin.
TNF and IL-1 activate endothelial cells. They incite leukocyte to come in to tissue. What are they guided by? (it’s a type of fibre), and where does this occur?
Fibronectin, in post capillary venules.
What is oedema?
Increase in interstitial fluid. This is due to increased hydrostatic pressure, and reduced plasma oncotic pressure.
What is hyperemia?
Active process of vasodilation
