What does the term, “Middle Ages” imply? Is this accurate?
- Renaissance Humanists regarded this as a time of barbarism and decline, similar to the “archaic” period of Greece
- This is not accurate as there was significant innovation during this time
The Middle Ages is generally divided into 3 periods, what are they?

style that incorporated animalistic elements into metal works as well as other art forms - This style is NOT influenced by the classical Mediterranean world
