Counseling
“Counseling” means EFFECTIVE communication between a PHARMACIST and a patient concerning the contents, drug to drug interactions, route, dosage, form, directions for use, precautions, and effective use of a drug or device to improve the therapeutic outcome of the patient through the effective use of the drug or device.
Drug Regimen Review (DRR)
“Drug regimen review” means the retrospective, concurrent, and prospective review by a pharmacist of a patient’s drug related history that includes evaluation of prescriptions or drug orders:
1.For allergies, contradictions, appropriate use, and duplicative therapies
2.For interactions
3.For adverse drug reactions
4.For proper utilization and therapeutic outcomes
Powers and Duties of the Board
The board may:
Adopt rules (Indiana Administrative Code)
Refuse to issue, deny, suspend, revoke, or place on probation a license or permit
Prevent distribution of drugs or devices deemed unfit for use or dangerous to health
Establish minimum standards of the physical characteristics of a pharmacy
Subpoena witnesses and schedule and conduct hearings on behalf of the public
Establish tests for applicants for pharmacists’ licenses
Regulate the sale of drugs and devices
Prescribe when and how licensing exams occur
Perform duties and functions to implement and enforce IC 25-26-13
Powers and Duties of the Board
The board shall (must) adopt rules to establish standards:
For the competent practice of pharmacy
For a pharmacist to counsel patients
To ensure a pharmacist has an agreement for the return of expired legend drugs and controlled drugs
For the electronic transmission of prescriptions
For the OTC sale of ephedrine and/or pseudoephedrine
Rehabilitation of Impaired Pharmacists
if you are an impaired pharmacist and you voluntarily work with IPRP, and are not a danger to yourself or others, you may continue to practice without any impact to your license.
Pharmacist intern
Permitted to practice pharmacy under the supervision of a pharmacist
A graduate of an accredited college or has established equivalent education and is obtaining experience as a requirement for licensure
A qualified applicant awaiting examination for licensure
An individual participating in a residency or fellowship
Pharmacy technician
Pharmacy technician” means an individual who works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to assist the pharmacist with clinical activities that do not require the professional judgement of the pharmacist
