Lecture 18 Flashcards

(7 cards)

1
Q

Describe ACh synaptic transmission for both the somatic and autonomic nervous systems

A

The role ACh plays in the somatic is voluntary and for autonomic involuntary, the same as muscle control.

Going through the somatic, ACh is released from neurons directly to muscle tissue to stimulate it

Going through the autonomic ACh stimulates neurons or tissues to directly or indirectly regulate organ function.

Where in the spinal cord an neuron is found dictates its pathway and function

2
Q

What receptors does ACh bind to

A

Ligand-gated and GPCR, but only the inhibitory and PLC pathway (Gi and Gq)

3
Q

What are examples of the ligand gated channels and the GPCR that ACh activates

A

Nicotinic ACh receptors are ligand-gated ion channels- these are the stimulatory receptors

muscarinic receptors(located both pre and post) are the GPCR with type 1,3 and 5 being Gq and type 2 and 4 being Gi

Q

Describe how ACh stimulates the para and symp nervous systems and where in the spinal cord do the neurons each come from

A

ACh directly stimulates the PNS whose neurons are found towards the ends of the spinal cord

ACh indirectly stimulates the SNS and their neurons are found in the middle of the spinal cord
