Ovary has 2 related endocrine units:

A
  • Estrogen secreting follicle in 1st half of cycle
  • Progesterone & estrogen secreting corpus luteum in 2nd half of cycle
  • Is controlled by hormonal relationships between the hypothalamus,
    anterior pituitary and the above.
  • Differential effects on the ovaria dependent on the phase of the cycle:
    + vs – feedback of estrogen
