What is the AODA?
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act - Set out mandatory accessibility standards that all levels of government must follow
What is the Goal of the AODA?
Prevention and removal of barriers for those with disabilities
5 standards of AODA?
- Information and Communication - create, provide and receive accessible info
- Employment - accessible workplace
- Transportation - accessible routes and vechiles
- Design of public spaces
- Customer Service - remove barriers
What is the Accessibility Policy?
Large Organizations and government - written policy that includes practices for providing goods, services and facilities and must be available to the public
What is the Accessibility Plan?
Steps that will be taken to remove and prevent barriers to employment
When do employees require AODA training?
- Any employee that provides goods and services (paid or volunteer)
- Anyone involved in creating or modifying organization’s policies
What is a barrier?
Anything that prevents a person with a disability from fully participating in all aspects of society because of their disability
What is a disability?
Includes a range of conditions, some of which are visible or not visible. Conditions may be present at birth, have been caused by an accident or have developed overtime
