1

Diseases that are vectored

-Bacteria
-Viruses
-Protozoa
-Rickettsia
-Helminthes

2

Virus

-Very small obligate, intracellular parasites
-Particles or agents that are not considered to be alive
-Enters and uses a host cell for synthesis
-Specific; bacteriophages infect particular bacteria

3

Viral replication

-Lytic replication cycle (most severe): virus particles made and released from the host cell, usually killing the cell

4

Vector borne viruses

-Togaviridae
-Flaviviridae
-Bunyaviridae
-Reoviridae

5

Bacteria

-Unicellular, prokaryotic
-Size, shape, and mobility varies
-Combatted by antibiotics

6

Protozoa

-Animal like protists (heterotrophic protists)
-Protists are a diverse group of organisms that includes all eukaryotes except green plants, fungi, and animals

7

Malaria

-World's most chronic health problem
-Caused by parasitic protist called Plasmodium
