Q

Describe Franz’s experimental set up

A
  • Three conditions
    1. Basic bi-manual task = the circles are separate
    2. Perceptual manipulation = bars join the circles together
    3. Conceptual manipulation = using the basic-bimanual task with a display with two options
  • In unified trials displays says phrases that hint to the hands being connected
  • In separate trials the displays will say phrases that hint to the hands being separate

Q

Describe the hypotheses in Franz’s experiment

A

Levels that try to connect the hands as performing one task on in-congruent tasks will have equal reaction time to congruent tasks

Q

What were Franz’s findings?

A
  • How we think about the tasks (either as two separate or one singular) influences how we plan and execute the tasks
  • Conceptually unified instructions eliminate sensorimotor interference effects when related to incongruent distances
